A list of drawbacks

Digital camera - You can only take a certain amount of pictures with it and there is a certain amount of pixels with it.

Scanner – You can only scan certain sizes of paper into your computer, anything bigger than A4 on some scanners will not be able to scan into your device.

Microphone – When using a microphone you need to make sure there is no background noise at all because it will damage the recording.

Printer – A printer can cause problems because they can only print a certain size and thickness of paper, also the ink can be more expensive than the printer.

Speakers – Sometimes they might not be powerful enough therefore you might need more than one set of speakers. Some speakers might only go up to a certain volume so you need to check they are going to be loud enough for what you need them for.

Monitor- You need to make sure there is a high resolution as then it will be no good for graphics.

Laptop – They are difficult to repair or update because of their design they also do not have a lot of storage space. Some software may not be compatible with some laptop.

Software – It is extremely expensive, software for graphic design can be up to £1000. They also take a long time to know how to use, you may need to go on a course to find out how to use them.

Input and output devices

Digital camera- A digital camera can take pictures and usually record videos too. These can easily put onto your computer by a lead which can connect from your camera to your computer. They then will be stored in files and can later be edited if you needed or wanted to. A digital camera would be useful for a design agency as it can easily put photos onto your laptop or computer.

Scanner- A scanner can digitalise images. They are similar to a photocopier. However they make a digital copy on your computer or laptop instead a physical copy.  These can also be used to scan text into a computer which can be helpful for storing or backing up documents or letters. This would help a graphical designer as you can out anything you need onto your computer whether you already have it saved on there or not.

Microphone – These are used to input various sounds into the device you are using. They can be used with ‘voice recognition software’ after using a word processing application to enter text into a word document etc. this will help if you are trying to enter a piece of information quickly as you don’t need to type.

Printer – A printer can print off anything from your computer, these can be handy so that you have an extra copy of your piece of information if you then loose it or it accidently gets deleted on your device you can easily scan it back into your computer. There are lots of different printers to choose from. Laser printers, ink-jet printers and dot matrix printers.  They all do different things

-          Laser printers = They are expensive but they give a high quality inputs and output at fast speeds

-          Ink-jet printers = These are black and white or colour printers. However, they reduce the levels of quality and the level of speed.

-          Dot matrix printers= These printers are noisy and they are also very cheap. They give extremely low quality print outs and are often used in companies that need lots of things printing or need duplicates.  They are useful for dirty environments such as a garage as they are studier and stronger than the other printers.

For a new business in design agency I think that the Ink-jet levels of printing would be the best printer to invest in as, they are cheaper but still give black and white as well as colour prints.

Speakers- These would be a useful output device to invest in as you will then be able to play videos or music out of your computer or laptop. It will help you to find out more information as you can view video’s etc, online.

Monitor – This is the most common output device on a computer. More modern monitors are only about 2cm deep and are usually Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) they can also be Thin Film Transistors (TFT).  Older monitors can be about 30cm deep and are usually Cathode Ray Tube (CRT). For a design agency a new monitor would be the best as it has a better picture quality. Monitors will normally will come the computer as a package. The older the model then the bigger and thicker the model will be. For a design agency the best monitor would be the thinner one that has Liquid Crystal Display, it gives you a much clearer picture.

A laptop - The best laptop for a design agency would be a MacBook Pro with Retina display. This gives a fantastic picture and has software already put onto the laptop which will help with designing. It is quick and affiant. It would be better than any other laptop on the market because of the software it already comes with.

Software

Software for a design agency would be Adobe Dreamweaver CS6. This provides an intuitive visual interface for making and editing HTML websites and mobile apps. It is good for website designing. You can view your designs enhanced Multiscreen Preview.

Adobe Creative Cloud is also good software to use if you want to add audio to a website of design page. You can reorganize the HMTL bar with this software as well.
